Adding your own logins
Most apps are easiest to add as a connection: you sign in on the app's own page and never handle a key. For a service that isn't in Connections, you can enter its key, token or sign-in details by hand, as a custom credential set. Your agent can then use them in its work.
Before you start
- Check Connections first. If you search for a service under + Connect an app and it isn't there, the picker says you may need to add it as a custom credential.
- Create the key or token in that service, with only the access the agent needs. A read-only key is safer when the agent only needs to read.
- Only an owner or admin of the agent can add, update or remove credentials. Everyone else sees a note that the owner manages them.
Add a set
- Open the agent's Credentials tab (from the Menu, Settings).
- Under the credentials list, open A service that isn't in Connections? Add its keys by hand and choose + Add custom credential set.
- Give the set a name you will recognise, such as
Stripe (prod). - Add the values, one of two ways:
- Enter fields: one name and value per row, for example
STRIPE_KEYand its value. Use + add pair for more. Names are capital letters, digits and underscores, starting with a letter. - Paste JSON: paste a key file a service gave you (a Google service account file, say). The form lists the values it found, by name and length only, and can store the file split into separate values or whole in one.
- Enter fields: one name and value per row, for example
- Press Save set.
A private key or certificate has line breaks that a single field can't keep. If you paste one into a field, the form says so and offers Add it as a JSON credential, which stores it exactly as pasted.
A few names are reserved for the agent's own sign-ins and settings and can't be used. If you pick one, the form tells you which and why; choose another name.
When your agent can use it
Saving sends the new values to your agent, which picks them up shortly. If it can't right away, the tab says the credential is waiting for a restart and offers Restart agent now (about a minute). The agent keeps using the old values until then.
Adding several? Tick Adding several credentials? Restart the agent once, after the last one before you start. Your saves then wait, and you press Restart agent now when you have added the last one.
Update or remove a set
Your sets are listed under Custom credentials on the same tab, with how many values each holds. Open one to see the names it holds.
- Update: a saved value can't be shown again, only replaced. Re-enter a value for every name you want to keep; remove a row to drop that name.
- Remove: clears the whole set from the agent.
An agent can hold up to 64 custom values across all its sets.
Where they are kept
Each value goes straight into your agent's encrypted store. It is never shown in the console after you save it, never sent in chat and never logged. Read more in Security.
